This year has seen an impressive number of trends concerning men’s t-shirts. The last few years have seen the rise of men’s fashion as increasingly popular and therefore equally more marketable. Men are spending a greater proportion of their earnings on self-adornment as they shrink their discretional spending habits in almost every other sector. While it is unlikely that men’s fashion will ever overtake women’s in terms of sales, but as a growth market, retailers are paying much more attention as men represent a new pie (as opposed to jockeying with their competitors for a greater piece of the women’s market).

This has resulted in marketing campaigns and product lines directed at men being much more visible than prior and as such trends have begun to appear that are definitely worth keeping an eye on.  This spring season has already seen a number of colour trends most easily Identifiable through usage with t-shirts.

The following has been provided by Pantone, the leading authority on colour in fashion and have been an inspirational resource guiding designers for the last 45 years. According to them the colours to look out for this spring are vibrant floral pastels. For Example:

-‘Solar power yellow’ and ‘grass green’ represent sunny hues that should be brightening up your otherwise khaki and olive drab heavy hold overs from fall and winter. So-called ‘tangerine tango’ has been nominated for colour of the year 2012—but if that isn’t your thing, dark red has been spotted trending as well.

-Neutral tones like sky blue and jewel blue are both subtle and calming. Dark blue is equally an eternal addition to a man’s wardrobe, and this year isn’t any different

-Earth tones like khaki, grey and oatmeal are set to be popular. However, these colours should be worn with caution as flesh-like tones typically should be kept well away from the face so make sure you are picking these with a mind toward your particular complexion.

Apparently everyone has a range of colours that are best suited to their skin colour. Equally different colour pallets are appropriate to different times of day, events etc. This spring colour palettes are tending toward monochromatic ensembles. That is to say, varying hues of the same colour family are being matched up. For example: a dark blue t-shirt under a light blue jacket makes use of this thematic contrast.
